Leiden-Delft-Erasmus professor

Leiden-Delft-Erasmus chairs are awarded to professors who through their research, education and engagement have stimulated the exchange between the three universities of the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Alliance. As of June 2023, Prof. dr. Bregje van Eekelen has been installed as Leiden-Delft-Erasmus professor at the Centre for BOLD Cities.

Bregje van EekelenProf. Dr.  Bregje van Eekelen has received a second appointment as Leiden-Delft-Erasmus professor at the Erasmus University Rotterdam as of June 2023. The chair ‘Smart City Design – Design, Culture and Society’ is embedded at the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Centre for BOLD Cities and established at the Erasmus School for Social and Behavioural Sciences. Prof. Van Eekelen is already professor of Design, Culture and Society at the Delft University of Technology.  The appointment is a recognition of Van Eekelen’s work that is located at the intersection of art, design and technology. She combines methods from cultural anthropology and history to understand the connection between the present, the past and the future. 

About Bregje van Eekelen

Bregje van Eekelen is Professor of Design, Culture and Society at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering. Van Eekelen received her PhD in Cultural Anthropology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Prior to her appointment in Delft, Van Eekelen was a member of the Institute for Advanced Study's School of Social Science in Princeton in 2017-2018 and a senior researcher History of Social and Human Sciences at the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication, Erasmus University.
