BOLD Cities board member Claartje ter Hoeven held her inaugural lecture in Rotterdam on May 6. She discussed her research about the hidden human labour of digitisation, and that - regardless of the degree of technological sophistication - there is always a ‘last mile’ that needs a human eye and hand. While such ‘ghost work’ can be done everywhere, the reality is that urban environments both profit and suffer the most from it.
